During the 20th century our culture told fables of the ugly duckling, of becoming more then we seen to be by others. In the commercial realms publicity and marketing spawned the story of Rudolph ,which has become with repetition one of our current fables of overcoming.
Cyber-bullying again reminds us that whether 2000 years ago, or in the 15th century or in the 20th century or today, we still need reminders that we can "aspire" to overcome life.
This oil painting converges a 15th century symbol with a 20th century fable and marketing ploy. It shifts between the two via twisight, shifting the hierarchy between halo and nose whether seen lit or unlit. Reminding us all, not that one equates the other, but that we still are human, we still strive to overcome. "
